There is a person who comes in requesting anti-depressive medication during pregnancy. When asked why she is depressed often the first answer is “I don’t know” translated to mean “I am not ready to look at the reason and see”. Sometimes the answer is about the relationship with the father of the baby awaiting birth. For example, “He is having an affair!” When asked why, the patient accustomed to cause and effect will label herself as the cause. “It is because I am fat!…pregnant!…can’t give him what he wants…etc…etc.”
Actually from a quantum mechanics perspective of multiple outcomes only one of which is chosen to be experienced, only he has a choice about his experience and outcome. His consciousness makes the choice based on his perception of the anticipated experience. Because this has nothing to do with his pregnant companion there is nothing she can do to change his choice. Any change of his choice is an internal decision of his consciousness. Her only option is to co-create based on his already established choices.
If she chooses to see herself as a victim of his choices and this becomes her perspective, then as she changes her behavior and he makes the same or another unwelcome choice according to his internal feeling she will inevitably become depressed as no change in her behavior is able to elicit the changes she desires in his behavior.
If she sees herself as the author of her own choices, and this is her perspective then she chooses her own results.
Her options are first to accept whatever behavior he chooses to exhibit and subject herself to his pre-determined outcomes accepting them totally whatever the consequence is on the relationship. Second option is to choose to not be a part of the unknown consequences to his behavior and let that be his consequence. In terms of quantum mechanics, all outcomes exist and the choice is about which outcome is chosen to be next in sequence and hence a con-sequence.
This example establishes the idea that what appears to be cause and effect is at its very basis choice and consequence.
The other insight from this example is that depression can be made to occur by becoming responsible for the consequences of someone else’s choice or becoming responsible for the actual choice they make.
